Bruce Willis stars in Columbia’s new film "Tears of the Sun" as Navy SEAL Lieutenant A.K. Waters. Nigeria is in a heap of trouble. The democratic government of the country has been taken over by a ruthless military dictator. The dictator is out to kill anyone who is not of his own conviction. Women, children — you name it — anyone is killed without mercy.

Waters is given a mission to rescue an American doctor before the dictator kills her. The doctor/physician, Dr. Lena Kendricks (Monica Bellucci), runs a Catholic clinic for people in the jungle. When Waters with his band of seals arrives to rescue her, Kendricks refuses to come, wanting instead to stay with her "people." Unless she can take her patients with her, she won’t come.

Waters calls in for more instruction. He is basically told to deceive the doctor by telling her to take the patients with her. The idea is that once they meet the helicopter picking them up, he’ll just tell her that only she can come, and then for all intents and purposes, kidnaps her.

While some people in the hospital decide not to come, the ones that go find that it takes several days to arrive at the rendezvous location. In the meantime, the dictator’s army is hunting them. Waters tells Kendricks the bad news that only she can come. As planned, he carries her off to the helicopter, and she is one angry passenger.

The film is full of action. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as the plot thickens and Waters has a change of heart about the people who originally traveled with them.

From that point on it is a chase through the African jungles to get to the border of the country and escape the wrath of the new regime. A few more twists and turns involving the only survivor of the former “first family” of the country, a traitor and a village on the dictator’s list of destruction provides plenty of action.
