So the story proceeds as he leaves home, subsequently wins the heart of a young lady, already engaged to someone else, and meets the most interesting people. Among his acquaintances are Karl the Giant, a witch, and a romanticized town, which is almost too good to be true. An incredible life, so much so that his son doesn’t believe a thing his dad says, and wants very little to do with him. And therein lies the problem, how will Ed and his son make peace?
The film was well done, and with the underlying theme of honoring one’s parents, it is worth seeing.
Ed Bloom is an older man, who loves to tell stories. And these stories are so far fetched that no one seems to believe them — especially his estranged son. Ed (Ewan McGregor) grew up in small town Alabama. Successful in his own right, he realizes, that like a goldfish, the only way he is going to grow as a person is to move on to bigger waters.
